The A. Ross Pini, II Media Center, an integral part of the overall program, serves as a resource center for the students and faculty. Based on the philosophy that Mercymount Country Day School is dedicated to the total education of the child, the mission of the media center is to provide appropriate resources and services to enhance the development of each student’s intellectual potential and growth.
To attain this goal, the following are the objectives of the library program:
- To provide materials and resources to serve the needs of the school population;
- To nurture individual enjoyment of reading and appreciation of literature;
- To incorporate the library media curriculum into the curricula of other disciplines;
- To teach the procedures and skills for selecting, locating and using library materials effectively.
Our Media Center
The Media Center is open from 9:00AM to 3:15PM Monday through Friday.
Each class from Kindergarten through Grade Five comes to the library weekly for Library Media Skills and for checking out materials. The PreKindergarten students visit the library once a week for storytime. The Middle School Students use the library for study, research and for checking out materials. The Media Center also serves as the central location for The Steam Lab, dedicated to broadening student awareness, creativity and education in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math principles.
The Media Center has a computerized catalog to help patrons find library materials. Patrons use dedicated searching stations to locate materials. Patrons search the catalog by title, author, subject, or keyword. The school library catalog can be accessed anytime, from anywhere through our RICAT website. RICAT is an online catalog that provides internet access to many schools in Rhode Island.
