Welcome Volunteers!
Volunteers are key to Mercymount and we are fortunate to have many parents (and grandparents) who are willing to give their time and talents. Below are some of the areas where parents can volunteer their time and services.
All volunteers must complete safe school training.
COVID-19: Lunch/Recess and Dismissal Duty Sign-up are available. Arrival Duty volunteers are also needed between 8:15-8:35am to assist with student arrival. Volunteers may report to the main office in the morning (no sign-up required).

Arrival Duty: 8:15am-8:35am (20 minutes)
Volunteers will go in through the main entrance (mask required), sign in and wait in the foyer. There will be a school employee directing you to a spot or classroom. A parent volunteer will be needed to assist with morning drop off in the front circle and a parent volunteer will be needed for the parking lot. Also, volunteers will be needed to make copies or cover classrooms if teachers need to complete tasks. You will not have to sign up for the morning shift. If you can assist in the morning, then report to the foyer and you will be given an assignment.
Lunch/Recess Duty: 1 Shift Per Grade (30 - 40 Minutes)
KINDERGARTEN, 1ST and 2ND
If you have a child in K, 1st or 2nd, your lunch/recess shift is 40 minutes. You should sign in at the office and go to your child’s classroom. You will monitor the lunch period in your child’s classroom and then will take the students out for recess (the teacher will let you know the designated recess spot for that day). In the event of inclement weather, recess will be held indoors in the classroom.
3RD, 4TH AND 5TH
If you have a child in 3rd, 4th or 5th, your lunch/recess shift is 40 minutes. You should sign in at the office and go to your child’s classroom. You will monitor the lunch period in your child’s classroom and then will take the students out for recess (the teacher will let you know the designated recess spot for that day). In the event of inclement weather, recess will be held indoors in the classroom.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
If you have a child in middle school, your lunch/recess shift is 30 minutes. You should sign in at the office and go to your child’s classroom. You will monitor the lunch period in your child’s classroom and then will take the students out for recess (the teacher will let you know the designated recess spot for that day). In the event of inclement weather, recess will be held indoors in the classroom.
*If you are able, it would be ideal to cover a classroom from each shift. Remember, these are the teachers only breaks of the day! If each family does its fair share, all the shifts will be covered!
**At recess, students are allowed to take off their masks if they are 6 feet apart. Sister Rayleen is in the process of getting key fobs for the volunteers in the event we need to enter the building.
You may elect to volunteer for a single shift or sign up for multiple shifts. You can select your volunteer time slot in Sign-up.
Dismissal Duty: 2:40pm-3:02pm (22 minutes)
Two volunteers will be needed each day for dismissal duty. Volunteers will go in through the main entrance (mask required) and sign in. One volunteer will assist dismissal procedures in the front circle starting with early bird dismissal at 2:45. The other volunteer will assist with dismissal procedures in the parking lot.
If you are interested in volunteering please Sign-up.
Classroom Reps
Friday Morning Helpers 9:00am-11:00am
On Friday mornings parents are welcome to help teachers with "chores". Our Friday Help!ers work in the Copy Room cutting, copying, laminating, collating, etc. for teachers and staff. It's a much-needed and much-appreciated service; just drop in any or every Friday. Friday Help!ers will also be responsible for organizing the supply of gently used uniforms. This is a great way to meet other parents, and younger siblings are welcome!

Sports
Coaching the various sports that we offer here at Mercymount. The committee meets monthly throughout the year until the spring gala event.

Fall Fundraiser
Volunteers are needed (the first few weeks of school) to count orders as they come in throughout the week, deliver prizes to classrooms and help with the “Limo to Lunch” run.
Volunteers are needed on the following days (2020):
Thursday, Sept 17 9:00am
Tuesday, Sept 22 9:00am
Friday, Sept 25 9:00am
Tuesday, Sept 29 9:00am
If we get at least 5 volunteers on each day, it should only take less than an hour each day.
Mother/Son Event
Parent Association
All MCDS parents, by virtue of their title, are members of the Parent Association, however 12-15 parents make up the Executive Committee. Nominations are received during March and April and accepted by the Principal depending on available openings. Meetings are held monthly and are open to all current parents.
Pot-of-Gold Basketball Tournament
Volunteers are needed for the score table, concessions and admission tables. This usually occurs at the end of February through early March. This is a lucrative fundraiser for our Sports programs! A “Tap-Off Breakfast” before the Tournament engages the coaches and team members with cooking, set up and clean up at Mercymount’s cafeteria. All proceeds support the Sports Program and gym improvements.
