Math Olympiad
Math Olympiad is open to students in grades 4-6. It is a program where students learn to solve math problems, expand their logic skills and reinforce mathematics in a group setting. It culminates with a test that is graded on a national basis, with students able to win recognition based on their score nationally. It is usually held one morning a week, before school.
National Junior Honor Society
NJHS invites selected students in grades 7 & 8 to be inducted once per year. Members must maintain rigid academic and personal standards and meet monthly. Members take pride in their accomplishments and strive diligently toward their goals of attaining a superior education and of contributing to their school and community.
Friends of Mercy
Friends of Mercy is an international program geared for 4th and 5th graders. The program, begun in 2011, is held after school and promotes personal development of a spiritual and social nature, combined with values of our Mercy tradition.
Student Council
The Student Council is comprised of Middle School students, grades 6-8. Members meet twice a month to plan activities and projects that foster the Mission Statement and are in the spirit of Catherine McAuley. Only eighth graders may be elected to one of the four major officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, or Treasurer).
Mock Trial
An extracurricular activity, open to students in grade 8, Mock Trial involves every aspect of preparation for a legal court case, including prosecution and defense. It consists of extensive preparation for competition which is held in the Spring. The entire case is then presented in competition with other school teams in a real courtroom.
Drama Production
The annual drama production is open to grades 6, 7, & 8. Auditions occur in mid- December with practices beginning after the Christmas break. The production is presented in the spring and includes a performance by our school chorus.
On the school premises, there are also many private after-school programs offered such as musical lessons, art classes, martial arts, etc which are offered throughout the school year.
Summer and “Vacation Week” Camps
Mercymount offers its facilities for a variety of summer and “vacation week” camps. Several faculty members offer various summer camp experiences including Archery, Dr. Seuss, Lego, Art, and Study Skills (Middle School). There is also a basketball camp that is offered several times throughout the year.
